"I have been a State Farm customer for over 30 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else for any of my insurance needs. I transferred to Mark Olson's office a little more than a year ago. Erin has been very helpful and transparent with any questions I may have and gets back to me with in a timely manner. Transition was super smooth, and staff is very friendly and welcoming. I have only made a few claims during my 30+ years as a customer and I can tell you that each one has been easy for me to navigate and if something seemed like it wasn't right they definitely went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied with the end result."

"I was initially reluctant to write this review, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it is important for others to be aware of the experience I’ve had. Please understand that this is not a reflection on my local agent, Mark, or his office staff, they have consistently been responsive, professional, and courteous in addressing my questions. My frustration lies solely with the State Farm claims department, which was managed out of a southern state and lacks understanding of Minnesota-specific conditions and codes. I chose State Farm specifically for the benefit of working with a local agent, so it was already disappointing to be redirected to a distant claims department. I shared my concerns with my local agent about what I was experiencing with the claims department, they agreed that the situation did not seem appropriate and even attempted to advocate on my behalf. Unfortunately, they encountered the same roadblocks. Despite their efforts, the claims department remained uncooperative, and since they are part of the same company, the negative experience reflects the entire State Farm brand, including my local agency. Had you asked me three years ago whether I would recommend State Farm, my answer would have been a confident yes. For nearly 30 years as a customer, and almost 20 as a homeowner. I had no negative experiences. That changed the moment I filed my first homeowner’s claim. Here is a summary of my experience: After storm damage, an inspector came out and acknowledged multiple issues, but the final report contradicted the initial findings. State Farm first approved replacing valley metals, expecting my contractor to remove and reinstall old shingles, a practice I believe is not permitted in Minnesota. When questioned, they agreed to replace the shingles around the valleys. My contractor gathered samples of my existing shingles for analysis, and State Farm collected them for review. My contractor also independently sent a sample to a professional lab for analysis. The results could not have been more contradictory. State Farm concluded that a similar product, GAF Timberline HDZ in "Mission Brown" was available and suitable for repair, even suggesting other colors might also match. However, the lab analysis provided by my contractor confirmed that my current shingle had been discontinued. When my contractor attempted to match the shingles with the recommended product, the difference in color and quality was immediately obvious. Not only was the color clearly mismatched, but the replacement shingles were a downgrade in material. Photos clearly show this mismatch, the result is patchwork roofing that any homeowner would find unacceptable. Once again, I reached out to my local agent, who agreed this was not acceptable. Yet despite their efforts, the claims department’s response remained unchanged. Their exact words: “Your estimate and photos were received and reviewed. The policy owes for like and kind quality, not exact. The shingles will blend over time. After review of the information provided, State Farm’s stance has not changed.” I then requested the analysis that supported State Farm’s decision, I was told it was internal and couldn’t be shared. Eventually, I learned no analysis was done — they simply called the manufacturer and made a judgment based on that call. After months of dealing with a rotating list of claims representatives. I was emotionally and mentally exhausted. I began contacting local contractors to see if anyone would be willing to carry out the work that was approved by State Farm. Every single contractor declined. None were willing to assume liability for reusing and mixing old shingles with new, or knowingly performing work that would compromise the roof’s integrity and appearance. This experience has been exhausting and deeply frustrating. If you’d asked me a few years ago whether I recommended State Farm, I would have said yes. Today, I would strongly advise caution. Your experience may be fine, until you have to file a claim. But if you ever do, be prepared. I certainly wasn’t."
